Staff Sergeant Kevin J Kessler

Graduated from East Canton High School in 1996.
Based on military records and the information we were able to obtain, SSG Kessler enlisted in the US Army in 2004. SSG Kessler was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Group, 1st Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. SSG Kessler served 2 tours in Iraq before being deployed to Afghanistan as a Motor Transport Operator.
SSG Kessler along with four other soldiers in his unite were killed on August 30, 2010 when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device (IED).
For his heroic actions, SSG Kessler was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor. Additional medals include the National Defense Service Medal and Purple Heart.
SSG Kevin J Kessler was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Massillon Ohio.
