Lawrence W. Renner:
Lawrence was born in 1896 in Canton where he attended Old Central High School. In 1921 he graduated from Western Reserve University School of Pharmacy at Cleveland and in 1927 he moved to East Canton and opened a drug store and pharmacy. Soon after, he helped organize the Stark County Pharmaceutical Association.
A civic minded citizen, Mr. Renner organized the Village Business men hoping to initiate a Chamber of Commerce. This organization did not continue but Mr. Renner was instrumental in bringing the Lions Club to East Canton.
In the community Mr. Renner served in 1930-31 on the Village Council and was village treasurer as well as township trustee during the years 1934-35. He was a member of the Board of Public affairs from 1936-1939 and township clerk from 1938 to 1941.
Though active in business and community affairs, Mr. Renner continued his study of law, graduating from William McKinley’s School of Law in Canton and was admitted to the Bar in 1939. He practiced law in his store. In 1945 he sold the store and set up offices in Canton and in his home on North Wood St. In 1956 he gave up his Canton Office confining his work to that at his home, now the home of and office Attorney William Weisend.
Attorney Renner played a vital role in East Canton civic affairs and community life. He held civic offices for 28 years and was a Sunday School teacher, A Notary Public, and a Central Committeeman for the Republican Party in Osnaburg Twp. He was Village Solicitor from 1943 to 1949 and served on the Board of Education from 1946 to 1958. Mr. Renner died in 1959 at the age of 63.
Mr. Renner was married to Mildred (Lotz) Renner and they had 2 children, Charles and Patricia (Renner) Palmer.
